Wood is a cost-effective, locally sourced fuel for heating our homes and businesses. But, did you know that old, outdated wood burning appliances waste firewood, create dust inside your home, and pollute the air?
Project Stove Swap is a voluntary program that offers financial incentives to replace old wood heating appliances with new, less-polluting technologies. Making the switch to a new appliance can cut heating expenses, reduce smoke, and improve air quality. Currently, Project Stove Swap is serving residents, small businesses, and nonprofits in 17 Northeastern Minnesota counties.
Benefits to Swapping Your Stove
Save Money
New models burn roughly 1/3 less wood for the same amount of heat.
Save Money
New devices significantly reduce the risk of chimney fires because they efficiently burn chemicals like creosote before they go up the stack.
Breathe Easy
Small particles in wood smoke are bad for your health. New stoves can reduce harmful particles from your wood appliance by more than 70%.
